Loving Your Kidneys

  • Palmer Square Park 2200 N Kedzie Ave Chicago, IL 60647 (map)

Fall is Mother Nature's Exhale.

As the leaves let go and we prepare for a more reflective time to come, our Kidneys need to stay vibrant and strong. Associated with the water element in Chinese Medicine, the Kidneys have everything to do with aging, and hold the emotion of fear. Let's strengthen the Kidneys and invite courage as we cycle through the season.

Join us as Elizabeth and Venus share their favorite modalities for some seasonal self-care with Kundalini Yoga and Qi Gong. We'll meet under a tree at Palmer Square Park in Logan Square - on the side closest to Kedzie near the giant hand (more specific instructions will be sent out after purchasing).

Sliding Scale: $25 / $35 / $45

What are Kundalini Yoga & Qi Gong?

Kundalini Yoga is known as the "Yoga of Experience." In each class we move through a set of movement and meditation. The movement is called a “kriya” and works like a recipe that has a specific effect on the body - physically and energetically. The system of pressure and release supports the nervous system to reset and regulate and the glandular system to balance. To Elizabeth, each class feels like brushing your teeth but for your brain. This practice is understood best by experiencing it. Come try it out!

Qi Gong is an ancient Chinese art and science that cultivates the life force–Qi. Its practice is rooted in the understanding that humans are a part of nature, and not separate from it. Through moving meditations you learn how to create a relaxation response to stress, sharpen the mind, and enhance the immune system.

Elizabeth teaches Kundalini Yoga, Khalsa Way Prenatal Yoga, Kids & Family Yoga, and supports educators and school districts as they bring mindfulness and SEL strategies to themselves and students. Her classes are a mix of movement, meditation, and community building. She deeply believes in the power of gathering to uplift each other while tapping into their own intuition and strength. Our bodies are hard-wired for healing and Elizabeth believes everyone has the right to access this technology. Check out her monthly New Moon and Full Moon offerings at www.elizabethbogart.com/events. If you dig astrology, are fascinated by neuroplasticity, and are open to different healing modalities - let’s stay connected! Venus believes we all have the ability to heal ourselves through the power of breath. Her journey began in 2006 when she was prone to sickness and felt her output was way more than her input. In a classic disciple and teacher training, she became a Certified Medical Qi Gong Instructor in 2012 at Inner Alchemy Energy Medicine. Turning off the outside world while emphasizing intuition, creativity, and imagination, she applies the power of intention with moving meditations. Her classes and workshops allow each individual to experience their inner universe with significance and ease, creating a more harmonious state of being. Combining her two passions–energy work and music, she often incorporates sound healing meditations into her classes, elevating the practice to another level. Learn more at venussabay.com

More About the Significance of the Kidneys:

Kidneys are best friends with the adrenals glands, which are key players in your fight-flight-freeze response. Adrenal glands produce hormones that help regulate your metabolism, immune system, blood pressure, response to stress and other essential functions.

Why it’s important now?

The Kidneys store energy that serves as a back-up power source when you're taxed and overworked. They are in charge of filtering the fluids in our bodies. In today's modern world, when many people drink more coffee than water, it's more important than ever to take care of the kidneys. We tire out the kidneys as they work to filter the toxins from the body and forget to give them what they need to function - water and rest.

This unprecedented year is not quite over. It requires our collective strength, resilience, and courage to stay centered, as well as committed to ourselves and our community. Let's make sure this second store-house of energy isn't depleted so we can end this year strong, healthy, and whole.
